S. W. R. D. Bandaranayake National School is a national school located at the Warapatiya junction in the Dumbara valley of Kanda Udara. This school is a source of pride for the children of Kundasale. But the journey to our school is not so beautiful, it deserves a journey like the Mahaweli River flowing through obstacles. The purpose of this web page is to trace the school's past and present it to future generations.
In 1937, the Theldeniya road from Kandy was near the Mahaweli River. On that road, crossing Thannekumbura Bridge and passing between Thannekumbura Fatima Church and Mahaweli River, there was a small private school close to the Irrigation Department office at that place and facing the Nattaranpotha side road. At that time, the area belonged to a plantation company, and this school was founded by that plantation company. The beginning of our school, which is famous as S.W.R.D.Bandaranayaka National School, is this Nattaranpotha Samagam Vidyalaya.
At that time, the principal of this school was Mr. DJ Batuantudawe. It is September 20, 1937. Therefore, this day can be called the school day or birthday of our school. As teachers, D.C.M. Mrs. Velaratne, K.M. Mr. Kiribanda, D.B. Ms. Ascilin has officiated.
A beautiful stream flows by the side of the school. It comes from Mahawatta, Aragala, Galmaduwa areas. The Mahaweli River flows in front of the school. It is special that this school is close to where the aforementioned canal road joins the Mahaweli River. Cocoa and coffee plantations are located around the school. Because of the productivity of cocoa, the Nattaranpotha Company College can not be seen in the area adjacent to this place. The reason is that these areas were flooded by the Victoria Reservoir which was built in 1978. Even today, when the water recedes, this area can be seen as a forest covered with Yoda Nidikumba thorn grass. When you look at the Mahaweli river from the main road near the Candos factory, you can see the original ground of our school. Nothing is left except the Kottapulun trees and mango trees that grew later.
On May 1, 1938 AD, it was decided to hand over this school to the government. Accordingly, Nattaranpotha Company College became the "Nattarampotha Government Mixed School". It belonged to Theldeniya Education Office. On June 26, 1939, HK was appointed as the first teacher of the school. Mr. P. Bandara was appointed. He has worked as the principal of this school for 11 years.
In August 1947, there was a great flood in the country. The Mahavali river overflowed. Also, the water body of the canal that flowed in front of the school began to sink our school. When the flood subsided, there was nothing necessary to run a school there. The school will not face such a disaster again. The Principal M.K.P.Bandara, who had the idea that it should be moved, arranged to get a land near the Kundasale Rajamaha Vihara and slightly above the old Mahiyanganaya road with the intervention of the government. This new school land was the land adjacent to the government paddy storage complex along the four mile post junction (fourth post) on the old Mahiyangana road towards Mahiyangana.
At that time, this was the intersection of the Menikhinna road and Mahawatta road through the College of Agriculture (Malgahamula). This land was very suitable for the school because it was an intersection. .P. Mr. Bandara retired on March 3, 1950. The future of children

On the third day of March 1950, when Mr. DD Dias took over as the principal, there were only a few small classrooms in the school.
Words written about the people who supported the building with the name of the principal have not survived yet. The college grounds are used as the headquarters of the National Cadet Force. According to the inscription on the wall of the entrance building, the history of this building is confirmed in writing. According to its reference, this building built with the dedication of the Principal Mr. J. G. D. Dias was opened on 01-04-1951.
1962-03-27 three twenty seven days U.G.Y. With the intervention of Mr. Jinadasa, a new building was added to the school. Our school, which was a mixed school of the Nattaran Book government, was promoted to Kundasale Maha Vidyalaya on 07-03-1964. Even now, the school did not own the land right of the school, so the principal worked to get that right, and as a result, on 03-06-1965, the deed for the college land was given to the school by Mr. R.P. Wijesiri, the member of parliament of Kundsalaye constituency. Its plot number was 1221 and 32 perches of 1 acre belonged to it. It should also be remembered that on 16-10-1970, Mr. R. Wijesiri, Member of Parliament of Kundasala Constituency, gave 3/4 acres of land to the school adjacent to the school grounds. A school anthem for Kundasale Maha Vidyalaya has just been introduced. The lyricist of this school song was Mr. Wasantha Dharmashyam, who was the principal of Kengalle Maha Vidyalaya at that time. At the same time, the school motto "Vidya Danani Vinayak" and a school logo and a school flag were introduced to the school at this stage. The school logo is shown on a dark red background.
